This web archive shows a statement made by three Common Purpose trustees Jude Kelly, (Sir) David Bell and Chris Mathias Chair of the CP Board of Trustees. In the statement they claim that a "tiny fraction of media coverage, mostly postings on online discussion boards, blogs and websites, is making highly offensive and untrue claims about Common Purpose...." The statement goes on to state the wonderful work that CP is supposed to do.
The important fact is that a very large number of rate-payers and taxpayers have started to ask why their money is being spent on CP training for which there is no tangible benefit. Common Purpose is so frightened of the truth emerging about £ millions of public money being spent on an elitest political club, that they have been interfering with the replies made by Councils and other bodies to questions posed by the general public under Freedom of Information. Those asking the questions are demonised as right wing extremists, vexatious and or mentally unwell. Julia Middleton the CP Chief Executive has told those challenging the legitimacy of Common Purpose to "Shut Up" - describing the person as a "Little Jerk". This unpleasant event occurred a public meeting.
In their haste to cover their tracks, Common Purpose has already encouraged a number of public organisations to breach the Data Protection Act. If Common Purpose is an innocent apolitical charity as it claims, then why is it so frightened of letting the general public know what it does behind closed doors, and just how much public money is being spent?
